The ASEA Health Benefits Trust has negotiated discounts with Preferred Provider Organizations (PPOs), which means these providers charge less for the services they provide to Health Trust participants. This helps to keep your health care costs down, while also helping the Health Trust maintain outstanding benefits and minimize your monthly employee contribution rates.

In some cases, the Plan benefits are the same, regardless of whether you use a PPO provider. In other cases, you will pay more if you use a non- PPO provider for services that could have been obtained from a PPO provider. Please note that the Health Trust has several types of PPOs.

Nationwide PPO

Aetna contracts with providers within Alaska and across the country. For services that can’t be performed by a PPO provider within the Municipality of Anchorage/Mat-Su Borough, consider choosing a provider in the Aetna network.

To search for an Aetna provider or facility, go to Aetna’s public website at aetna.com. Search for a provider in the “Aetna Choice POS II (Open Access)” network. When you make an appointment for service, make sure the provider is participating in the Aetna network. To obtain Aetna PPO discounts, you must identify yourself in advance as an Aetna participant. Plan benefits are the same, regardless of whether you use an Aetna preferred provider or another facility.

The ASEA Health Trust has negotiated discounts with Preferred Provider Organizations (PPOs). A PPO plan offers you a choice of providers while keeping the ASEA Health Trust’s total costs as low as possible. PPO plans use networks of physicians and other providers who agree to offer their services at a discount. Services you receive from a PPO provider are considered ‘in-network.

In some cases, the Plan benefits are the same, regardless of whether you use a PPO provider. In other cases, you will pay more if you use a non-PPO provider for services that could have been obtained from a PPO provider.
